Soy sauce is made from fermented soybeans, so it’s a fermented food.  It’s one of the few foods that can be as healthy as the whole food it is derived from.  Try using the healthier soy sauce in this one.

Note: Using raw, unrefined sugar cane instead of processed white sugar will provide more nutrients and most importantly help you avoid a major sugar spike in your blood (raw sugar will hit your system more slowly than refined & processed sugar).  However, in this recipe, it will take a lot more time and effort to get that natural sugar to dissolve in this uncooked sauce, so I suggest using agave nectar instead.

Using raw (nama) unprocessed soy sauce (shoyu) that is organic (watch out for GMO’s) is also much healthier than regular soy sauce.  *Be aware: most soy sauces of any type contain a small amount of gluten.

Soy Sauce contains niacin (fights stress), protein, and manganese (good for bones), and is high in antioxidants.

    1. Hi Bridgett. Thank you for your comment, and welcome to our site! And, thanks for sharing with your friends.

While “light” sounds good in theory, it generally means fat (a healthy substance) has been removed and chemicals or sugar (unhealthy substances) have been added. So what to use instead? Real mayo! The good news is its really easy. Here’s a simple recipe we’ve made and enjoyed (the sauerkraut juice or whey are optional): http://www.homemademommy.net/2012/02/the-best-homemade-mayo.html.

Full fat true sour cream from hormone and antibiotic free milk is better than light sour cream. However, the majority of people don’t tolerate dairy well because it is an inflammatory food and is difficult to digest. Our suggestion would be to stick with the homemade mayo.
