This is a fantastic juice recipe to help detoxify the liver. The beets and beet greens, in addition to the grapefruit, are particularly helpful for women in balancing hormones…especially those tied to our cycles. Who couldn’t use a little balance in that area? Drink up!

  1. Love your site! Just stumbled across it tonight and I think it is going to be so incredibly helpful for me and my family. We just discovered that one of my 2.5 y/o twins has allergies to egg, soy, gluten, oats among other miscellaneous things. We have always been considerably healthy eaters…but we had no idea how much more we needed to learn until we changed our family diet for our son. The kitchen is getting a major overhaul!

Just curious – is it possible to make this recipe in a Vitamix, rather than a juicer, and taste okay?

    Thanks for all you do!

    1. Thanks so much, Kendra. We’re thrilled we found you! 😉 It’s amazing what a food allergy will do to the family diet, and the kitchen, isn’t it? Allergies are a hard, and sometimes scary thing to figure out, but overall, his having to cut out those foods may be a long-term health blessing for the entire family. There’s the positive spin anyway!

The Vitamix will take this recipe and turn it into a beautiful salad smoothie, but you might need to add a little more apple or berries or something to make it more palatable for the young ones. You wouldn’t need nearly as much produce though, or you may have to do it in two batches, just because you’re using the whole veggie and not just the juice. We have a Blendtec that we adore, and we do a green smoothie almost every day. So you could certainly adjust this recipe to your liking and make it a regular occurrence.

The juice by itself is more easily digested and will get to the blood stream easier (exactly why fruit juices can be so rough on your blood sugar levels) than doing it smoothie style. You’ll certainly get a lot of nutritious benefit from doing it that why, but you might consider that more of a meal than a cleanse drink.

Hope that helps and makes sense. Thanks so much, and feel free to ask as many questions as you want!
